According to a study conducted by doctors, pregnant women who were fit had little complications during pregnancy. As per this study, exercises are essential during pregnancy. However, pregnant women should follow certain guidelines for prenatal exercises.

Some of the guidelines for prenatal exercises are as follows:

Maintaining Correct Posture:
It is important to have the right posture while doing exercises during pregnancy. Right posture includes having a straightened back and tilted pelvis. Avoid lying on your back or bending down, bicycling in the air and stretching your abdominal muscles excessively. In addition, a pregnant woman should not indulge in jerky and jumping movements.

Wearing Appropriate Clothing:
Wearing comfortable and flexible clothing is very important while exercising. Pregnant women should wear clothes that do restrict movements. In addition, they should take utmost care to wear shoes that support the feet and legs in general.

Maintaining Body Temperature:
Research has shown that maintaining body temperature is very crucial during pregnancy. Higher body temperature can cause defective neurological development in the fetus. This is especially true during the first trimester. Therefore, pregnant women should avoid exercising in hot and humid weather. The amount of exercise should be reduced as the pregnancy progresses. In the late stages of pregnancy, women should do just stretching and strengthening exercises. Do not think about hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms during pregnancy.

Maintaining Water Levels:
Keeping your body well hydrated is important part of exercising. Hydration helps in maintaining and regulating the body temperature. Pregnant women should consume a lot of water before, during and after an exercise.

If you experience exhaustion or abdominal pain, you should stop exercising immediately. It might be advisable to consult your doctor to ensure that everything is okay with you and the baby.
